As part of its support for broad based black economic empowerment, Sovereign Foods continues to identify suitable business entities to enter into business partnerships with. Sovereign's first fully-fledged BBBEE business partnership was launched in 2006 in Loerie, Eastern Cape. The company launched a state-of-the-art breeder farm in conjunction with Kamnandi Trading, a BEE farming group from the region. The project was funded by the Eastern Cape government, by finance institutions and by a R5mil contribution from Sovereign Foods. The company managed the entire construction of the farm from start to finish and, as part of the handover, facilitated the training of the farmers to ensure the long term sustainability of the project.
